Head Outside

Head Outside

Winter is here and it is going to be a doozy. Even though temperatures are in the negative digits and there may be no motivation to do anything, we need to go outside. Don't let the intimidating outdoors deter you from exploring this incredible season because there are many reasons to go outside this winter. So bundle up and let's get going.

Studies have shown that going for walks outside can actually boost brain function and mental focus. Walking doesn't just increase your physical activity, but also promotes the free flow of ideas and creativity too. Going for a simple 20-minute walk can snap your mind back to attention if you are feeling like you are scattered. It's no secret that winter comes with its downsides, not just the garbage driving conditions and the mind-numbing temperatures but also, the blues. Depression is very common this time of year, and one way to shake yourself out of it on that day, if you can, is by going outside and soaking up as much vitamin D as you can.

Now if your resolution for 2019 was to whip your body into shape, going outside can throw a wrench in your workout. It's trickier to work up the courage to go outside, let alone going outside to workout. Think of it like this, working out in the winter burns more calories and will help you reach your goals sooner and, there is nothing more peaceful than a morning jog.

There are some perks to winter and if more people focused on those things, winter wouldn't have such a bad reputation. There is nothing better than spending the day tobogganing, snowmobiling or spending the weekend on the ski slopes. Whichever way you choose to spend your winter, make the best of it with the ones who matter.
